Crystal Palace supporters have been debating whether Pierre Sage should change his formation to help the Eagles avoid a relegation battle this season. The discussion followed a call for views on whether Palace should move away from their current 3-4-3 setup.

Several fans backed a switch to four defenders. Lewis and Paul both favoured a 4-3-3, arguing that Palace have looked vulnerable and that the three-man defence has not produced the required defensive stability. Dominic also called for a change, while suggesting the system used at Leeds could be given another opportunity.

Midfield was another major concern raised by supporters. Dominic said Palace can leave too many runners moving through the centre, while Jason recommended adding a defensive midfielder in front of the back four. Jason also said the team needed greater leadership on the pitch, although he acknowledged Adam Wharton’s technical ability while questioning whether the midfielder currently provides that influence.

Not every supporter believed the formation itself was the central issue. Stephen argued that the squad would be difficult for any coach to improve, criticising the replacement of Palace’s two best defenders and Sage’s lack of a settled defensive unit. However, he also questioned the team’s high-pressing approach, saying it can leave the defence exposed.

Colin felt Sage must be able to adapt tactically depending on the opposition and circumstances. He pointed to an away match against an in-form Brighton side as an example where a more cautious approach may have been appropriate. While supporting the manager’s ambition to play expansive football, Colin argued that the same approach cannot be used in every match and said Sage’s position should be questioned if he does not recognise that.
