Crystal Palace supporters have backed the idea of changing formation as the club looks to avoid a relegation battle this season. The discussion followed Ollie Thomas suggesting that the Eagles may need a different approach, with several fans calling for a switch from 3-4-3.
Lewis and Paul both favoured a move to 4-3-3, arguing that Palace's current three-man defence has left the side vulnerable. Dominic also wanted a new system, while highlighting the need for greater protection in midfield and suggesting that the setup used at Leeds could be given another opportunity.
Jason called for four defenders and an additional midfielder in a screening role. He also said Palace require more leadership on the pitch, adding that although Adam Wharton has considerable technical ability, he does not provide the leadership Jason believes the team needs.
Not every supporter felt the formation itself was the central issue. Stephen argued that the squad's defensive options were a bigger concern, claiming that Palace had lost their two best defenders and replaced them with players he viewed negatively. However, he also criticised the team's high-pressing approach for leaving the defence exposed and said Sage had yet to establish a settled defensive unit.
Colin said the manager must be willing to adapt tactically according to the opposition and circumstances. He cited the prospect of facing an in-form Brighton side as an example, while acknowledging that he liked Sage's ambition to play expansive football. He added that using the same approach in every match would be a problem and questioned whether Sage should remain in charge if he cannot recognise that.
