Pierre Sage’s start at Crystal Palace was discussed on BBC Radio 5 Live’s Monday Night Club, with Chris Sutton asking whether the Frenchman had taken on one of the Premier League’s most demanding roles this summer.

The discussion centred on the high standards created by the Eagles’ success under former boss Oliver Glasner. Palace supporter Dan Cook said there remained considerable goodwill towards Sage among the fanbase, with supporters wanting his tenure to succeed rather than calling for his departure.

However, Cook highlighted the club’s defensive record as a growing concern. Palace have conceded 17 goals across their opening seven Premier League matches, a run that has placed greater focus on the team’s ability to remain competitive without regularly allowing multiple goals.

He also acknowledged Palace’s threat in attack, saying the side are capable of scoring. The concern, as outlined on the programme, is that an attack-minded team may struggle to collect consistent results if defensive problems continue from week to week.

The full Monday Night Club programme is available on BBC Sounds, with a clip of the Palace discussion also released by the broadcaster.
