Pierre Sage said Crystal Palace’s supporters responded positively to the team’s effort during the 1-0 Carabao Cup win at Fulham, with fans singing the manager’s name during the match.

The Palace boss felt the connection between the players and supporters grew stronger because of the team’s willingness to compete. He acknowledged that Fulham had controlled much of the play, but praised Palace’s defensive work and their ability to protect the small details that helped secure victory.

Sage admitted it was not the ideal way for Palace to win, but said the result was valuable and that he was pleased for the supporters. He also clarified the meaning behind blowing a kiss towards the stands, explaining that the gesture was intended for his wife rather than the fans.

The manager reserved particular praise for Cheick Doucoure, who made his first start in 662 days. Sage described the midfielder’s return as the standout moment of the day after a long period in which Doucoure had endured setbacks, waited for his opportunity and continued working towards a comeback.

Sage added that seeing Doucoure happy on the pitch was important not only for the player himself but also for his Palace team-mates.
