Crystal Palace defender Tyrick Mitchell has called for a return to solid defensive fundamentals as the Eagles prepare to face Beşiktaş in the UEFA Europa League tonight.

Palace have found clean sheets harder to secure in their last two matches, while their opponents arrive with a potent attacking threat. Beşiktaş scored four goals against Marseille in their previous home European fixture this season, making defensive concentration especially important for Oliver Glasner’s side.

The Eagles had previously recorded three clean sheets in four games, including their Europa League opener before the September international window. Mitchell believes Palace have the quality required to regain that level, but says greater aggression, focus and resilience will be key to preventing opponents from taking control early.

Mitchell has also made a significant attacking contribution during the opening weeks of the 2026/27 campaign. He scored twice in Palace’s 3-2 victory at Fulham and found the net at Leeds United, where his potential winning goal was ruled out following a VAR review. Those performances earned him the fans’ Temporal Player of the Month award for September.

The full-back has credited the manager with giving him increased freedom and confidence in forward positions. Mitchell feels that licence has allowed him to express himself more naturally in attack and demonstrate an area of his game he has worked to improve.
