Tyrick Mitchell is determined to carry his impressive early-season form into Crystal Palace’s Premier League meeting with Nottingham Forest at Selhurst Park, with kick-off scheduled for 14:00 BST.
The full-back was named the Eagles’ Temporal Player of the Month for September after making a notable contribution in front of goal. He scored twice during Palace’s 3-2 victory at Fulham and also found the net against Leeds United, although a VAR review ruled out what would have been the winning goal.
Mitchell believes Palace used the recent international break to continue developing under their new manager. He feels the team has made progress both defensively and in attack, while also acknowledging that adapting to a new coach and new ideas takes time. In his view, the squad is now adjusting at a positive rate.
Palace are still searching for their first Premier League victory in 12 meetings with Forest. Mitchell expects another demanding contest and believes success could depend on the Eagles winning their individual battles, alongside carrying out their tactical plans effectively.
The fixture will also see Oliver Glasner return to Selhurst Park in the Forest dugout after his previous spell in charge of Palace. Mitchell praised the manager’s influence on his career and the achievements they shared, but stressed that his attention before and during the match will be firmly on helping Palace secure three points.
Mitchell’s goalscoring has represented a significant part of his development this season. He says Palace’s system has given him more freedom to move into attacking positions and shoot, complementing the defensive confidence he has built over recent seasons. Having previously been encouraged by managers to add more goals and assists, the 27-year-old believes his efforts to contribute further in the final third are beginning to produce results.
