Crystal Palace endured a miserable Premier League afternoon on Sunday as Brighton raced to a 5-0 victory, a result that sent the Seagulls up to second place and left the Eagles 14th.
Brighton needed only four minutes to take the lead, with Jaydee Canvot turning the ball into his own net. Diego Gómez then doubled the advantage from the centre of the pitch in the seventh minute before Yasin Ayari struck three minutes later. Palace were completely overwhelmed during the opening stages.
The damage continued after half-time when Charalampos Kostoulas added Brighton’s fourth in the 49th minute. Jack Hinshelwood completed the scoring late on, making it a five-goal afternoon for the Seagulls and a heavy defeat for Pierre Sage’s team.
The result will not improve Sage’s situation, with Palace now sitting 14th after the seventh round of Premier League fixtures. Brighton, meanwhile, moved into the division’s second position after their emphatic win.
