Crystal Palace were beaten 5-0 by Brighton at the Amex Stadium, suffering a devastating start as their rivals scored three times inside the opening 10 minutes. The result gave Brighton a fourth consecutive Premier League victory and extended their run across those matches to 15 goals without conceding.
Palace fell behind after just four minutes when Jaydee Canvot inadvertently turned Pascal Gross' low cross into his own goal. The deficit doubled shortly afterwards in spectacular fashion, with Diego Gomez spotting Walter Benitez away from his line and sending a long-range effort into the net from 51.3 metres.
Brighton added a third in the 10th minute. Charalampos Kostoulas created the opening with a clever backheel for Yasin Ayari, whose low attempt found its way home after taking a deflection off Canvot. The rapid start was the earliest a Premier League team had scored three goals in a match since Newcastle's similar burst against Tottenham in April 2023.
Palace could not find a way back after the interval, with Kostoulas reacting quickest to a deflection from Ayari's effort to score Brighton's fourth from close range. Jean-Philippe Mateta then struck the crossbar with an unchallenged attempt, while Jefferson Lerma sent Adam Wharton's cross onto the outside of the post as Palace missed two opportunities to reduce the deficit.
Brighton completed the rout late on when Luka Vuskovic headed a deep delivery back into the danger area, allowing Jack Hinshelwood to score from close range. Palace generated only 0.75 expected goals compared with Brighton's 1.98, while Gomez's strike was the longest-range Premier League goal since Wayne Rooney scored from 57.7 metres for Everton against West Ham in November 2017.
