Crystal Palace manager Pierre Sage has provided an update on his squad ahead of Saturday evening’s Premier League trip to Tottenham Hotspur.
Jean-Philippe Mateta is ready to return to the starting line-up after being left out of Wednesday’s 1-0 Carabao Cup victory over Fulham. Sage explained that the forward had played two 60-minute spells within seven days, despite normally being managed through shorter appearances, so Palace opted to rest him at Craven Cottage.
The news is less positive for Ismaïla Sarr, with Sage confirming that the forward is currently unable to play. Jørgen Strand Larsen, however, is set to take part in group training after working individually so far, giving him a chance to be involved against Tottenham.
Quinten Timber is also nearing a return. Sage said the midfielder was due back the following day and could potentially take part in some team minutes on Saturday.
Palace made 10 changes for the midweek London derby and came through the match without any problems, according to the manager. Dean Henderson played against Fulham and is now able to feature again, while the squad will focus on recovery ahead of the Tottenham fixture.
Sage acknowledged that players returning from extended periods without football may need time to rediscover their rhythm and build understanding with teammates. He added that the defensive work required at Fulham helped those players settle into the contest and provided the coaching staff with positive options for the games ahead.
