Crystal Palace remain in the top half of the Europa League standings despite suffering their first defeat of the competition, with the Eagles edged 3-2 by Olympique Lyonnais in France.

That result leaves Palace with three points from their opening two fixtures, following the 4-0 victory over Lech Poznan on matchday one. They currently occupy 15th place, positioned between Dinamo Zagreb and AC Milan in the league phase table.

If the standings were to remain unchanged, Palace would qualify for the play-off round as a seeded side. Seven teams have collected three points from their first two matches, but the Eagles lead that group on goal difference with a +3 mark.

Juventus currently top the table after winning 2-1 away at Celta Vigo, while Bayer Leverkusen are narrowly behind them on goals scored. Palace will now have the chance to improve their position when they travel to Istanbul to meet BeÅŸiktaÅŸ on matchday three on Thursday, 22 October, with kick-off scheduled for 20:00 BST.

A victory could move the Eagles back into the top eight, depending on results elsewhere. Finishing in that section would bring automatic qualification for the last 16 and avoid the play-off round. Palace's next home league-phase fixture will then come against Hoffenheim at Selhurst Park on Thursday, 5 November, at 17:45 GMT.
