Crystal Palace academy defender Alfie Mulvenna scored for Northern Ireland Under-17s during their international camp in Spain, while summer signing Taha Majni captained Morocco Under-20s in their opening U20 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixture.
Mulvenna struck in Wednesday’s 4-1 loss to Sweden. The centre-back, who joined Palace from Larne as a first-year scholar over the summer, was then rested for Northern Ireland’s 2-1 win over Switzerland after the club agreed to manage his minutes following a busy spell with Javier Alonso’s Under-18s.
The Palace youngster returned to the starting line-up for Monday’s final game in Spain and completed the match as Northern Ireland were beaten 2-0 by Wales. The three fixtures form part of the Young Greens’ preparations for UEFA Under-17 European Championship qualifying in November.
Majni played 80 minutes and captained Morocco Under-20s in a goalless draw with Tunisia in Ismailia. The UNAF Tournament also serves as qualifying for the 2027 U20 Africa Cup of Nations, with Morocco competing against Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria and Libya for two available places.
The defender was part of Morocco’s FIFA U20 World Cup-winning squad in Chile last year, aged 17, and has since moved up to the Under-23s, where he has won two caps. Palace academy players Lucca Benetton, Dean Benamar and Isaac Ogunrinde also featured for their respective age groups during the window, while Rosen Modev received a Bulgaria Under-17 call-up and Joel Drakes-Thomas withdrew from England Under-18s’ squad through injury.
