Crystal Palace Under-18s suffered a painful 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa at the Academy, with Oliver Bindley’s stoppage-time goal ending their defence of the U18 Premier League Cup. The result also brought Palace’s hopes of reaching the quarter-finals to an end at the group stage.

The Young Eagles made a lively start and took the lead after 14 minutes. Raihaan Anderson raced through on goal and lifted the ball over the advancing goalkeeper, then reacted quickest after his first effort was cleared off the line to put Palace ahead.

Villa levelled five minutes later when Bindley headed in from a cross, before the visitors were reduced to 10 men following Clay Atkins’ dismissal for a dangerous challenge on Makai Bernard-Ferguson. Palace tried to make their numerical advantage count, but Villa goalkeeper Rhys Oakley produced several important saves, including a stop to deny Donte Martin from close range.

Palace applied sustained pressure after the interval. Alfie Mulvenna had a goal ruled out for offside, Martin went narrowly wide and Oakley kept out further attempts from Bernard-Ferguson and substitute Kayden Moses. Hugo Bull came closest to giving the hosts the lead when his long-range strike crashed against the crossbar, with Toby Williams unable to convert the rebound.

The Young Eagles continued to push forward in the closing stages, but Villa remained a threat on the break. With Palace committing players in search of a winner, Bindley finished a late counter-attack to secure victory for the visitors and complete a decisive personal contribution.

Palace will now use the international break to regroup before returning to league action against Bournemouth on Saturday, 21st November. The fixture will be available to watch live on Palace TV+.
