Crystal Palace's crucial second goal against Nottingham Forest has come under scrutiny after replays appeared to show the ball brushing Anan Khalaili's elbow before it crossed the line.
Jefferson Lerma nodded the ball through the legs of Forest goalkeeper Matz Sels from a corner just before half-time on Sunday. However, the goal appeared to take a slight touch from Khalaili on its way into the net.
BBC football issues correspondent Dale Johnson said the incident could leave Forest feeling aggrieved. He explained that a goal cannot be scored if the ball touches a player's arm, but VAR decided there was not enough conclusive evidence to overturn the on-field decision.
The decision may be particularly frustrating for Forest because Neco Williams previously had a goal ruled out for handball against Tottenham after bundling the ball into the net on the goal line. Johnson said there was a case that the evidence against Khalaili was clearer, meaning Forest had been on the wrong side of both decisions.
Former Premier League assistant referee Darren Cann also believed the replays appeared to show Lerma's header coming off Khalaili's arm. However, he added that VAR officials could not spend an extended period reviewing an incident and had to support the original decision if clear and indisputable evidence was not immediately available.
