Crystal Palace were beaten 2-0 by Newcastle United at Selhurst Park, with second-half goals from William Osula and Harvey Barnes condemning the Eagles to another Premier League defeat.

Palace made the quicker start and almost opened the scoring inside three minutes. Adam Wharton’s free-kick caused confusion in the Newcastle penalty area, with Jean-Philippe Mateta twice attempting to force the ball home before goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek reacted sharply to keep it out.

The hosts continued to threaten in the opening stages, recording eight shots during the first 26 minutes. That was their highest first-half total in a Premier League match this season, although Mateta, Daichi Kamada and Dwight McNeil were unable to properly test Hornicek. Yeremy Pino also sent a dangerous delivery across the area before the break, but Axel Disasi could not reach it.

Newcastle changed the momentum immediately after half-time, taking the lead in the 47th minute when Osula met Jacob Murphy’s precise cross with a powerful first-time finish. The visitors briefly thought they had doubled their advantage through Joe Willock, but his effort was ruled out for offside following a VAR review.

The second goal eventually arrived after Newcastle built another effective attack. Nico Gonzalez held the ball up before finding Amar Dedic, who set up Barnes for a decisive finish into the bottom-left corner. Palace responded with efforts from Wharton and Dario Osorio, but Hornicek saved Wharton’s curling attempt and then made a full-stretch stop to deny Osorio from distance.

The result adds to the pressure on Palace manager Pierre Sage. The Eagles produced 17 shots and finished with an expected-goals figure of 1.69, but only four attempts were on target. They have now conceded 50 Premier League goals in 2026, at least four more than any other team in the competition.
