Pierre Sage’s challenge at Crystal Palace has come under scrutiny on BBC Radio 5 Live’s Monday Night Club, with Chris Sutton asking whether the Frenchman has taken on one of the Premier League’s most demanding jobs this summer.

The discussion recognised the backdrop created by Oliver Glasner’s outstanding spell in charge, which brought significant success for the Eagles. Palace fan Dan Cook said there remained considerable support for Sage among the club’s supporters and that there was no widespread call for him to leave.

However, Cook pointed to Palace’s defensive record as a growing concern. The Eagles have conceded 17 goals across their first seven Premier League games, a figure he suggested was making it difficult for the team to build consistency.

Palace’s attacking play has offered encouragement, with Cook noting that the side are capable of scoring goals. He argued, though, that regularly allowing two or three goals is a major problem, particularly with the squad’s expectations viewed as being in the bottom half of the division.
