Crystal Palace manager Pierre Sage is set to make an emotional return to Lyon when the Eagles visit the Groupama Stadium in the second matchday of the Europa League league phase.
Sage returns to the club where he made a major name for himself in Ligue 1. His spell in Lyon brought him into the spotlight, and the upcoming meeting will see him face his former club from the Palace dugout.
Lyon head coach Paulo Fonseca has spoken about Sage’s return, with the fixture offering a reunion between the current Lyon boss and his predecessor. Fonseca described the prospect of facing Sage as “a pleasure to play against him.”
For Palace, the match will therefore carry an added storyline beyond the European contest itself, with Sage leading the English club back to the stadium where his profile was significantly raised.
