Crystal Palace manager Pierre Sage has not been contacted by former club Lyon about replacing Paulo Fonseca, despite his difficult start in charge of the Eagles.

Fonseca is set to leave Lyon during the season to join Sporting in Portugal, prompting the French club to search for a new head coach. Carlos Vicens, recently dismissed by Braga, is reportedly the leading candidate for the role.

Sage was naturally mentioned as a possible option because of his strong connection with Lyon. The 47-year-old, who has consistently expressed his affection for the club, previously worked as the club’s academy director before becoming first-team manager.

However, Sage remains in his position at Crystal Palace, who are currently 18th in the Premier League. He is under contract with the south London club until 2029 and, as a result, Lyon have not approached him about returning to his hometown club.
