Crystal Palace were beaten 2-0 by Newcastle United at Selhurst Park, with William Osula and Harvey Barnes scoring after half-time to end the visitors’ run of consecutive league defeats.

Palace began brightly and almost took the lead inside three minutes. Adam Wharton’s dangerous free-kick caused confusion in the Newcastle penalty area, with Jean-Philippe Mateta making two attempts to force the ball home before goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek reacted quickly to keep it out.

The hosts continued to apply pressure in the opening period, recording eight shots during the first 26 minutes. Mateta, Daichi Kamada and Dwight McNeil were unable to properly test Hornicek, while a late cross from Yeremy Pino narrowly missed Axel Disasi before being gathered by the Newcastle goalkeeper.

Newcastle changed the momentum soon after the restart. Jacob Murphy delivered a precise cross in the 47th minute, and Osula finished first time to put the visitors ahead. Newcastle briefly appeared to double their lead when Joe Willock scored after running onto Joelinton’s pass, but the effort was ruled out for offside following a VAR review.

Palace continued to face pressure and conceded again through a well-worked Newcastle move. Nico Gonzalez held up possession before finding Amar Dedic, who set up Barnes for a composed finish into the bottom-left corner. Palace responded with efforts from Wharton and Dario Osorio, but Hornicek saved Wharton’s curling attempt and then produced a full-stretch stop to deny Osorio from distance.

The result adds to the pressure on Pierre Sage, with Palace having conceded 50 Premier League goals in 2026—at least four more than any other team in the division. The Eagles recorded 17 shots and an expected-goals figure of 1.69, but only four efforts were on target, while Newcastle scored with both of theirs.
