Crystal Palace endured a heavy 5-0 defeat against Brighton, with the home side’s manager Fabian Hurzeler describing the result as a memorable occasion for the club’s supporters.

Hurzeler said Brighton’s performance was built on intensity, winning individual battles and second balls, as well as executing set-pieces effectively. He also highlighted the team’s clean sheet while warning his players that there remains room to improve despite the emphatic scoreline.

One of the major talking points was Diego Gomez’s long-range finish. Hurzeler said Brighton do not specifically practise attempts from 50 metres, but credited Gomez’s awareness, speed of thought and ability to strike the ball accurately after recognising the goalkeeper’s position.

Brighton defender Lewis Dunk offered an equally confident assessment, saying his side had been superior from the opening minute through to the final whistle. He also praised Gomez’s powerful finish and said the forward was playing with confidence.

Dunk was unwilling to make any predictions about Brighton’s prospects in the title race, insisting that the club’s attention should remain on its next matches. For Palace, the afternoon ended with a five-goal defeat and Brighton celebrating a dominant display in the latest meeting between the two clubs.
