Crystal Palace suffered a crushing 5-0 defeat to Brighton at the Amex Stadium, with the home side taking control almost immediately and completing a fourth consecutive Premier League victory.
Brighton opened the scoring after only four minutes when Jaydee Canvot inadvertently turned Pascal Gross’ low cross into his own net. The situation deteriorated soon afterwards, as Diego Gomez punished Walter Benitez for being off his line with a spectacular strike from around 51.3 metres.
Yasin Ayari added a third in the 10th minute, finishing after Charalampos Kostoulas created the opening with a clever backheel. Brighton’s rapid start meant Palace were three goals behind after nine minutes and 30 seconds, making it the earliest a Premier League team had reached that mark since Newcastle did so against Tottenham in April 2023.
Palace were unable to mount a recovery after the interval. Kostoulas reacted first to a deflection from Ayari’s effort and slid in Brighton’s fourth, before two chances went begging for the visitors. Jean-Philippe Mateta struck the crossbar with an unchallenged attempt, while Jefferson Lerma directed Adam Wharton’s cross onto the outside of the post.
Brighton added a fifth late on when Luka Vuskovic headed a deep delivery back into the danger area, allowing Jack Hinshelwood to score from close range. The result leaves Palace on the wrong end of a 5-0 scoreline, while Brighton’s four-match winning run has produced an aggregate score of 15-0. Brighton also recorded 1.98 expected goals to Palace’s 0.75.
