Tyrick Mitchell believes Crystal Palace’s reaction after half-time offered encouragement in their defeat to Olympique Lyonnais.

The Eagles struggled to find their rhythm during a disjointed opening period and went into the interval two goals behind. Their performance improved significantly after the break, with Yéremy Pino and Daichi Kamada scoring to turn the match into a much closer contest.

Speaking to TNT Sports, Mitchell said Palace were disappointed not to have begun the game with the same intensity they showed in the second half. He explained that the players had been given the necessary information but had not applied it effectively before the interval.

Mitchell did not view the slow start as a confidence issue, instead describing it as one of those occasions when execution fails to match expectations. The two-goal deficit left Palace with a difficult task, although he felt the team responded positively after the restart.

The defender credited manager Pierre Sage with reminding the squad of its ability and encouraging the players to restore their belief. Mitchell also stressed the need for Palace’s back five and wider defensive unit to continue improving from one game to the next.
