Crystal Palace reached the Carabao Cup quarter-finals for a third consecutive season after edging past Fulham 1-0 at Craven Cottage. The result also extended the Eagles’ winning run away to Fulham to five matches and ended a five-game wait for victory in all competitions.

Manager Pierre Sage felt Palace had to adapt after a difficult opening period. Fulham caused problems down the Eagles’ left flank in the first half, prompting tactical changes at the break. Palace subsequently used possession more effectively, improved their overall performance and defended resolutely to protect their narrow advantage.

Sage made 10 changes to his starting line-up, giving opportunities to several players who had featured sparingly this season. The match also marked the return of Cheick Doucouré, who completed an hour on his first competitive start since 4 January 2025. Sage highlighted the midfielder’s comeback as a particularly significant moment after his lengthy absence.

Dean Henderson also returned to the team and produced an important late save from Gonzalo Garcia. Sage praised the goalkeeper’s contribution and his influence as captain, while also acknowledging the work Walter Benítez had done previously. The manager said the competition for places would give him more options as the squad continues to regain full availability.

Palace’s travelling supporters remained fully engaged as the team fought through a challenging tie. Sage stressed that the connection with the fans grows when the side shows commitment on the pitch, even when the performance is based more on defensive discipline than attacking fluency. For Palace, the result delivered a place in the last eight and a welcome reward for a much-changed side.
