Crystal Palace’s disallowed goal in the 0-0 draw with Leeds United was correctly overturned by VAR, according to the Premier League’s Key Match Incidents Panel.
Palace visited Elland Road on September 20, with neither side able to find a winner. Early in the second half, Anan Khalaili’s cross was deflected by James Justin into the path of Tyrick Mitchell, who finished from close range after the referee had initially awarded the goal.
VAR intervened, however, ruling that Khalaili had moved into an offside position during the build-up. The decision was subsequently reviewed by the panel, which confirmed that the intervention and the offside call were correct.
The panel’s report stated that the VAR decision to disallow the goal for an offence involving Khalaili was supported. Palace and Leeds ultimately had to settle for a point in their final match before the international break.
Leeds manager Daniel Farke described the contest as scruffy and acknowledged that his team lacked sufficient quality in its attacking play and decision-making. He said Leeds had tried to alter the positions and structure of the game, but could not produce the decisive moment needed to break the deadlock.
