Pierre Sage said he was proud of Crystal Palace’s display after the Eagles were held to a goalless draw by Leeds, although he felt the result could have been better for his team.

Speaking to BBC Match of the Day, Sage highlighted Palace’s attacking performance and the chances they created. However, he also acknowledged that their goalkeeper had been required to make an important save, underlining the need for teams to take their opportunities when they arise.

The match brought Palace their first clean sheet, with Sage also pleased by improvements in the team’s defensive work. He said the players were feeling more confident together and described the defensive display as an important first step, while stressing that the next priority was collecting more points.

Sage added that Palace deserved more than the four points they have taken from their opening five games. Despite the clean sheet, he admitted to feeling frustrated that the side could not convert its chances into a winning goal.

Anan Khalaili also produced a notable defensive contribution. He has made more tackles than any other player in the Premier League this season, with 21, and won possession 11 times against Leeds — the highest total recorded by any player in the match.

Palace’s wider points return remains a concern, with only Tottenham collecting fewer points among the teams that have been ever-present in the Premier League during the calendar year of 2026. The draw leaves Sage’s side still searching for a stronger run of results.
