Crystal Palace were beaten late by Ipswich at Selhurst Park, with Zian Flemming scoring in the final minutes to deny Pierre Sage’s side a point. The result came after Palace had fought back despite playing most of the match with 10 men following Axel Disasi’s dismissal.
Ipswich took the lead through Anan Khalaili, who produced an excellent strike early in the contest. The visitors then turned the game around with two goals before the interval in a match that repeatedly swung from one side to the other.
Palace improved after the break, enjoying more possession and creating opportunities. Jørgen Strand Larsen brought the hosts level with his first Premier League goal of the season, but Palace were unable to take a chance to move ahead before Flemming struck at the other end.
Sage said he was particularly disappointed for the players after their effort in difficult circumstances. He also acknowledged that Palace had conceded too many goals from a similar situation, with crosses followed by a failure to win the ball inside their own penalty area. While he felt the defensive unit had made progress, he identified defending crosses and competing in the box as areas that required improvement.
The manager praised Strand Larsen for his energetic display, including his defensive contribution, and noted that the forward had scored three goals in his last two matches. Palace captain Dean Henderson missed the game with a foot injury, and Sage suggested that he could return for the meeting with Nottingham Forest once he has recovered.
