Crystal Palace Women endured a difficult afternoon at Selhurst Park as Tottenham Hotspur secured a 7-0 victory in the Barclays Women’s Super League.
The match turned sharply in the seventh minute when Fuka Tsunoda was shown a red card for a dangerous challenge on Cathinka Tandberg. Palace had made a positive start, with Bethany England going close in the fifth minute, but Jo Potter’s team were forced to play with ten players for most of the contest.
The Eagles defended resolutely during the opening half, with goalkeeper Pauline Peyraud-Magnin producing another strong display. Her standout intervention came shortly before the interval, when she tipped a powerful Amanda Nildén effort onto the crossbar.
Tottenham’s numerical advantage eventually proved decisive. Olivia Holdt scored a second-half hat-trick, while Victoria Pelova, Shekeira Martinez and Amanda Nildén were also on target as the visitors pulled away. Holdt’s three goals arrived within a 23-minute spell, with Pelova and substitute Martinez adding to Palace’s problems late on.
Palace now have a quick opportunity to respond, with Watford next up in the Subway Player’s Cup League Phase on Wednesday, 23rd September. The match is scheduled to begin at 19:00 BST at the Borough Sports Ground.
