Crystal Palace Women endured a difficult afternoon at Selhurst Park as Tottenham Hotspur recorded a 7-0 victory in the Barclays Women’s Super League.

Palace started positively, with Bethany England shooting narrowly wide in the fifth minute. However, the contest changed two minutes later when Fuka Tsunoda was dismissed for a dangerous challenge on Cathinka Tandberg, leaving the Eagles with ten players for the majority of the match.

Jo Potter’s side defended resolutely during the first half, with goalkeeper Pauline Peyraud-Magnin making several important interventions. Her best save came shortly before the interval, when she produced an acrobatic effort to tip Amanda Nildén’s powerful strike onto the crossbar.

Tottenham’s numerical advantage became decisive after the break. Olivia Holdt scored three times in a 23-minute spell to put the visitors firmly in control, before Victoria Pelova, substitute Shekeira Martinez and Amanda Nildén added further goals.

Palace now have a quick opportunity to respond, with Watford next up in the Subway Player’s Cup League Phase on Wednesday, 23rd September. The match is scheduled to begin at 19:00 BST at the Borough Sports Ground.
