Crystal Palace supporters have delivered a mixed verdict on the club’s start to the 2026-27 season, with optimism about Pierre Sage’s attacking approach tempered by concerns over the team’s league form and defensive consistency.

Mark rated the opening period seven out of 10, arguing that Palace needed time to settle after the arrival of a new manager, late returns from the World Cup and the addition of new players. He said he was pleased with Sage’s work, particularly the attacking emphasis and the openness around team selection, while identifying defensive stability as an area requiring attention. In his view, the club’s European success had concealed weaknesses that emerged during the latter part of the previous season.

Bill offered a much more concerned assessment. He pointed to Palace winning only five home matches last season and taking two victories from their previous 12 games, warning that success in cup competitions could distract from the importance of improving their league results. He also questioned whether the current squad could cope with competing on four fronts and urged the club to prioritise its domestic responsibilities.

Other fans were more encouraged by the direction of travel. Martin said the early difficulties had given way to greater positivity, with clearer patterns developing and the defence showing signs of improvement. He also drew a comparison between Sage’s profile and Oliver Glasner’s, suggesting Palace’s current manager should be given the opportunity to build his team.

Pedro struck a balance between frustration and hope, noting that Sage had seen key defenders sold while some attacking players had become unsettled. Despite those challenges, he believed the manager was developing a deeper and more exciting squad. He expected further obstacles but remained confident Palace could be “OK”, even if another trophy did not arrive this season. The three-week break now gives Sage time to address the concerns raised by supporters while continuing to shape his squad.
