Crystal Palace manager Pierre Sage has confirmed that Dean Henderson and Jean-Philippe Mateta will not be available again until after the international break at the earliest. Sage said Henderson’s recovery is clearer than Mateta’s, but added that he expects to provide a fuller update in around two weeks.

Palace travel to Elland Road on Sunday for a 14:00 BST Premier League kick-off after opening their Europa League campaign with a 4-0 victory over Lech Poznan. Sage was pleased with the performance, highlighting the four different goalscorers and the clean sheet, particularly after the defensive work carried out following the team’s previous match.

The manager also clarified Cheick Doucoure’s absence from the European squad. The midfielder was not included on Palace’s Europa League list, although he remains eligible to play in the Premier League. Sage explained that selecting the squad was difficult because several players are injured, while the list could potentially be amended in January if Palace reach the knockout stages.

Sage believes the Poznan result has improved confidence within the group. He pointed to the team’s growing understanding of how to score and defend, as well as the return of more players and the wider range of ways Palace can approach matches.

Ismaila Sarr made his return from injury against Lech Poznan and received some boos from supporters at Selhurst Park. Sage said the forward still needs time to regain his level and may be able to start against Leeds, but is not expected to last the entire match. He also said Sarr’s goals and Palace’s victories should be enjoyed by everyone as the player continues his comeback.

Jaydee Canvot is set to return to the matchday squad after being left out for the game against Ipswich. Sage said the young player responded well during preparations and understands what is expected of him, while stressing that talent must be accompanied by consistently high standards.
