Crystal Palace suffered a dramatic 3-2 defeat to Ipswich Town at Selhurst Park, with Pierre Sage left frustrated by his side’s missed opportunities and late concession.
Palace made a bright start when Anan Khalaili put them ahead inside 14 minutes. Ipswich responded through Emersonn, who headed into the top-left corner from close range nine minutes later, before the visitors took control of the contest after Axel Disasi was shown a straight red card for a high tackle on Jack Clarke.
Playing with 10 men, Palace reorganised into a 5-3-1 formation and limited Ipswich’s opportunities for long periods. However, Leif Davis restored the visitors’ advantage just before half-time with a header at the back post.
The Eagles recovered in the second half and drew level when Jorgen Strand Larsen scored in the 75th minute. Sage’s side then had the chance to move in front, but Ipswich substitute Zian Flemming struck in the 90th minute to secure all three points for Gary O’Neil’s team.
Sage said the players deserved at least a point after their effort with 10 men, but admitted Palace had made a costly mistake before the interval and failed to take a key opportunity later in the match. The result means Palace have lost their opening two home Premier League games for the first time since the 2018-19 season.
