Crystal Palace fan Thomas believes Pierre Sage could be approaching the end of his time at the club after a frustrating match against Tottenham left Palace with little to show for the occasion.

Speaking as part of the BBC Sport Fan Collective, Thomas said the fixture had represented an opportunity for Palace to demonstrate that they are better than a side currently sitting in the relegation zone. However, Jean-Philippe Mateta's dismissal after 10 minutes changed the game, with Thomas accepting that the forward's challenge was probably worthy of a red card.

Thomas's frustration centred on the wider consequences of the suspension. Mateta will miss Palace's next three matches against Liverpool, Coventry and Hull, which he described as important fixtures in the club's season. He felt the sending-off turned what should have been one of Palace's biggest games into an occasion from which little could be learned.

The supporter now sees a significant week ahead for Sage, with Sunday's meeting with Liverpool viewed as a must-win contest. Thomas said that situation was a major concern and argued that it should not have reached that point at this stage of the campaign.

Despite Palace's attacking promise and some encouraging patterns earlier in the season, Thomas said their league goals have dried up while their defence is the leakiest in the division. He sympathised with Sage, pointing to the problems the manager has faced and insisting that many were outside his control.

Thomas added that Sage had been desperately unlucky and said he still liked the manager and had wanted the appointment to succeed. However, he warned that Palace appeared to be sliding further and further, while acknowledging that the club had benefited from several other teams also struggling.
