Crystal Palace secured a fourth Premier League point of the season after playing out an entertaining 0-0 draw with Leeds United at Elland Road. The Eagles enjoyed the better of the contest for long periods and arguably created the clearer chances against a Leeds side that began the weekend third in the table.

Pierre Sage made two changes following Palace’s impressive 4-0 Europa League victory over Lech Poznań, bringing Takehiro Tomiyasu and Jaydee Canvot into the starting line-up. The visitors showed confidence in possession, with Quinten Timber driving forward and Jørgen Strand Larsen providing an effective focal point in attack.

Palace increased the pressure after half-time. Yéremy Pino forced James Trafford into a save from a free-kick, while Daichi Kamada and Jefferson Lerma also came close as the Eagles’ passing unsettled the hosts. Palace then appeared to take the lead when Tyrick Mitchell finished after Anan Khalaili’s run down the right, but a VAR review judged Khalaili to have been offside.

Leeds responded with a spell of pressure, during which Walter Benítez produced an excellent stop to deny Dominic Calvert-Lewin from close range. Palace regained their composure, however, and continued to threaten, with Ethan Ampadu making a timely challenge to prevent Kamada from getting a shot away inside the box.

Kamada had another strong opportunity late on when he met Chris Richards’ delivery at the far post, but his attempt narrowly missed the target. Neither side could find a winning moment in the closing stages, leaving Palace to take a point from a committed performance in West Yorkshire.
