Crystal Palace will welcome former manager Oliver Glasner back to Selhurst Park this weekend when Nottingham Forest visit south London, setting the stage for an emotional reunion between the Austrian and the supporters.
Glasner’s contract with Palace expired at the end of June after he guided the club to the Conference League. That success followed a 1-0 victory over Rayo Vallecano and represented the Eagles’ third trophy in 12 months. His tenure had already included the club’s first major trophy, secured with victory over Manchester City in the 2025 FA Cup final.
Appointed in February 2024, Glasner oversaw an unprecedented period of success before leaving Palace. He had been expected to take time to consider his next move, but instead became Forest’s manager just one week after his Palace deal ended.
That decision surprised some Palace supporters, particularly given the previous dispute with UEFA that saw the Eagles moved from the Europa League to the Conference League while Forest took their place. Ahead of his return, opinions expressed on social media suggest that most fans still appreciate what Glasner achieved, even if they are unhappy to see him now in the Forest dugout.
Some supporters have argued that he should receive a warm welcome in recognition of the trophies he delivered, while others have struggled to forgive aspects of his final season. Glasner came close to resigning around the turn of the year after announcing he would depart at the end of the campaign, although winning the Conference League helped repair some relationships.
Neither Palace nor Forest has made an ideal start to the new season, with both clubs recording one victory from their opening five matches. Glasner will now be hoping to claim an important win against his former employers on his first return to Selhurst Park.
