Nathaniel Clyne is on the verge of joining United States League side Sporting Club Jacksonville after leaving Crystal Palace at the end of last season.

The 35-year-old defender became a free agent when his Palace contract expired. He has agreed to continue his career in the USA and is nearing a move to the Florida-based club.

Former Brentford and Nottingham Forest manager Mark Warburton, now Sporting Club Jacksonville’s sporting director, played a key role in bringing Clyne to the club.

Clyne came through Palace’s ranks before moving to Southampton. Liverpool later signed him in 2015 for £12.5m, while the defender also earned 14 senior England caps during his career.

He returned to Selhurst Park in 2020 and was part of the Palace squad that helped the club deliver the FA Cup and European Conference League trophies. His next chapter is now set to take place in the United States.
