Ipswich Town left-back Leif Davis has described Crystal Palace as a fresh challenge for the newly promoted side ahead of Saturday’s Premier League meeting at 15:00 BST.
Davis, who has started Ipswich’s first three league matches, has been reunited with manager Gary O’Neil after previously working with him during a loan spell at Bournemouth. The defender said the return to O’Neil’s coaching setup has helped his development and given him confidence in the manager’s methods.
The 24-year-old has also been adjusting to a different tactical role. Davis explained that he has been moving further inside in possession while continuing to use his athleticism, adding that he feels he is improving in several areas of his game. He scored his first goal and said he hopes to add more during the season, potentially starting against Palace.
Davis also highlighted the concentration required in the Premier League, saying opponents can punish any lack of time or space. He rejected the idea that Saturday’s fixture will be an easier assignment, stressing that every team in the division presents a different challenge and that Ipswich are prepared for Palace’s style.
