Crystal Palace’s early-season record has been described as “not particularly impressive” by Kaiser Chiefs bassist Simon Rix, who was discussing Leeds United’s start on BBC Radio Leeds’ Don’t Go To Bed Just Yet podcast.

Palace have scored six goals in the campaign but conceded 11, while their results include defeats by Ipswich Town and Everton and a victory over Fulham. Leeds, meanwhile, are yet to lose in the Premier League this season and have collected eight points from their first four matches.

Rix suggested Palace’s defensive record could give Leeds encouragement before the fixture, arguing that Daniel Farke’s side are capable of taking advantage when chances come their way. Leeds have conceded only three Premier League goals so far.

The match comes before a three-week international break. Leeds defender James Justin has said the club’s immediate priority is reaching 40 points in their second season since promotion from the Championship, rather than focusing on European qualification.

Rix also urged caution over talk of a possible European push, saying it was too early to assess Leeds’ position after only four games. He suggested that building a significant gap over the relegation places would allow the players to relax and express themselves more freely.
