Crystal Palace’s defensive display frustrated Leeds United as the two sides played out a goalless draw on Sunday, September 20.
Leeds had produced an impressive attacking performance against Newcastle United in their previous match, but Palace managed to contain the Whites at the other end. Dominic Calvert-Lewin was largely isolated, while Anton Stach and Jayden Bogle also struggled to make an impact in the final third.
Despite the lack of attacking fluency, Leeds centre-back Tarik Muharemović rejected any suggestion that the team’s forwards had failed to contribute. The Bosnia and Herzegovina international said the attacking players had helped the side defensively and stressed that responsibility was shared across the team.
Muharemović also highlighted Leeds’ positive start to the Premier League season. Daniel Farke’s side remain unbeaten after five matches, with nine points leaving them fifth in the table, although the defender acknowledged that victory over Palace would have been preferable.
The result underlined Palace’s ability to blunt an in-form Leeds attack, while leaving the hosts disappointed at Elland Road despite extending their unbeaten run.
