Crystal Palace defender Jaydee Canvot says the squad is embracing the increased demands of the Europa League as the Eagles prepare for their first overseas trip of the season.

Palace began their league phase campaign in impressive fashion, beating Lech Poznan 4-0 at Selhurst Park last month. A further victory at Olympique Lyonnais on Thursday evening could move them to the top of the table and strengthen their position in the race to reach the knockout stages.

Canvot played in every knockout-stage match during Palace’s Conference League triumph last season, including the entire 90 minutes of the final against Rayo Vallecano in Leipzig. He is now looking forward to testing himself against opponents with a strong European history, while also returning to France for the fixture.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Canvot said the opportunity would benefit the whole squad and provide him with an important learning experience. He also acknowledged that the Europa League represents a higher level than last season’s competition.

The French defender was also asked about the tactical differences under Palace’s new manager. He explained that there have been adjustments to the team’s pressing and positional play, although the squad remain confident in their build-up approach. Canvot added that such changes were natural with a new coach, while suggesting the overall transition has not been extensive.
