Ipswich Town head coach Gary O’Neil has provided a positive squad update ahead of Saturday’s Premier League visit to Crystal Palace, with the two sides due to meet at Selhurst Park at 15:00 BST.
O’Neil confirmed that every Ipswich player is back in full training apart from midfielder Jack Taylor. Azor Matusiwa and Jaden Philogene have both returned to the main group after not featuring during the season so far.
Philogene, who scored 13 goals in all competitions for Ipswich last season, is ready to start against Palace. Matusiwa is expected to begin the match among the substitutes.
The Ipswich boss said having an almost fully fit squad was a reflection of the work carried out by the players and the club’s medical and fitness staff during a demanding pre-season and the early competitive schedule.
O’Neil also highlighted Emersonn after the Brazilian striker scored on his competitive debut against Sunderland in Ipswich’s Premier League opener. He said the 22-year-old had made a particularly strong impression and had adapted quicker than expected to the demands of top-flight football.
Palace midfielder Adam Wharton was another player discussed during the press conference. O’Neil described him as an exceptional talent and an outstanding passer, adding that Wharton would be part of the challenge Ipswich need to handle at Selhurst Park.
