Former Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend avoided injury after being struck by a pitch roller before PT Prachuap’s Thai League 1 fixture at Pattani.
Townsend, 35, was warming up when a member of staff appeared to lose control of the vehicle, which then collided with the former England international. His left leg was briefly caught beneath the roller during the unusual incident.
Despite the collision, Townsend was able to take part in the match, coming off the bench late in Prachuap’s 3-0 victory. The winger has 13 England caps and previously played for both Tottenham and Palace.
Townsend later made light of the incident on Instagram. Referring to an earlier post comparing a sunny trip in Thailand with previous visits to Stoke, he wrote: “It turns out Stoke away wasn’t so bad after all. Swipe to see why.”
He also responded to being labelled “The King of Memes in Thai League history” with “trust me” followed by four laughing emojis.
