Liam Delap gave Oliver Glasner a timely reminder of what Crystal Palace missed out on last summer by scoring his first goal for Nottingham Forest in their victory over Aston Villa.

Glasner had tried to sign Delap for Palace before the striker moved to Forest, where he has arrived as the club’s £45m record signing. The forward made an immediate impression, producing a powerful strike from 25 yards to put Forest ahead shortly after half-time.

Delap’s energetic display was central to Forest’s performance, with his movement and hold-up play causing Villa problems throughout. He also thought he had scored again before an offside decision ruled out the effort.

Forest ultimately secured the points through Igor Jesus, who finished a move involving Daniel Munoz and Morgan Gibbs-White late in the match. The result gave Oliver Glasner’s side their first win of the season, while Villa remained without a Premier League victory.
