Aimee Everett has praised Crystal Palace Women’s all-round effort after they secured a goalless draw against Arsenal at the Emirates. The result leaves Palace unbeaten after their opening two Women’s Super League matches and yet to concede a goal.
The Palace captain was central to the defensive display and was named the Barclays Player of the Match at the final whistle. Everett said the team’s ability to take a point from one of the league’s leading sides represented a major achievement, particularly during their first away fixture of the campaign.
Although Palace spent much of the match defending, Everett stressed that the clean sheet was the result of a contribution from every area of the side. She credited the players from defence through to attack for maintaining their discipline, working for one another and carrying out their responsibilities throughout the 90 minutes.
Everett also believes the current Palace squad can exceed expectations after changes to the team since two seasons ago. The skipper said the group would now turn its attention to another demanding contest, with Tottenham due to visit Selhurst Park next week.
The Palace captain reserved further praise for the travelling supporters, saying their backing was clearly felt despite the match being played away from home. Palace’s meeting with Spurs is scheduled for 14:00 BST on Sunday 20 September at Selhurst Park.
