Crystal Palace supporters were left frustrated after Saturday’s 3-2 Premier League defeat by Ipswich Town, with defensive mistakes and the sending-off among the main talking points in their reaction.
One supporter felt Palace had made a promising start and looked better than they had earlier in the season, but believed the dismissal was an unnecessary error in a dangerous area. Poor marking then allowed Ipswich to find space in the penalty area, although Palace were praised for continuing to compete with 10 men. The same view highlighted Jorgen Strand Larsen’s goal and argued that Palace could have rescued a draw, while calling for significant defensive improvement.
Other reactions were far more severe. One fan criticised the team’s performances and said the manager had been placed in a difficult position by the arrival of several players close to deadline day. Another directed the blame towards chairman Parish, arguing that selling key assets had made it harder for the club to remain competitive and predicting a relegation battle.
Questions were also raised about Palace’s lack of cohesion and understanding at the back. One supporter said the team had been comfortable at 1-0 before undermining itself once again, while also questioning the manager’s public criticism of certain players. Another described the defence as a major weakness and singled out goalkeeper Scherpen’s early wayward clearance as evidence of the problems between the posts.
Ipswich supporters, meanwhile, felt the visitors deserved their victory over the full match. One said Ipswich had dominated parts of the contest but made life harder by failing to convert several second-half chances. Another celebrated the late winning goal and expressed confidence that the result could help a new-look Ipswich side avoid relegation, despite playing against 10 men.
