Crystal Palace were beaten 3-2 by Ipswich in a dramatic Premier League match after Axel Disasi’s red card left them with 10 men. Zian Flemming scored in the 90th minute to settle a contest in which Palace twice led before conceding late.
Palace made changes before kick-off, with captain Dean Henderson absent through injury. Jaydee Canvot was dropped after the previous week’s defeat by Fulham, allowing 18-year-old Honest Ahanor to make his debut in defence. Walter BenÃtez made only his second Premier League start since joining Palace.
The hosts took the lead when Daichi Kamada created the opening for Anan Khalaili, whose effort took a deflection off Leif Davis on its way into the net. Ipswich responded through Emersonn, who converted from a Davis cross after Palace’s defence appeared to hesitate over the build-up. Disasi then received a straight red card for a high challenge on Jack Clarke, forcing Palace to reorganise.
Palace withdrew Yéremy Pino for Takehiro Tomiyasu following the dismissal, but Ipswich moved ahead before half-time when Davis headed in after the ball diverted off Emersonn. Despite their numerical disadvantage, Palace continued to threaten. BenÃtez saved from Clarke, while Emersonn fired over and Quinten Timber went close twice.
Jørgen Strand Larsen restored parity with 15 minutes remaining, controlling a clever pass from Kamada before beating Ipswich goalkeeper Kjell Scherpen. Khalaili later missed an open goal, and that proved costly when Davis’s header struck the crossbar in the closing moments. Flemming reacted quickest to the rebound and secured victory for Ipswich, leaving Palace without a clean sheet in the Premier League since April.
