Pierre Sage will have taken encouragement from Crystal Palace’s performance against Leeds, with the Eagles showing plenty of energy despite facing a difficult schedule. Palace had played in the Europa League on Thursday and had three fewer days to prepare than their opponents, while nine of their starters featured again from the beginning.
Palace created the opening opportunity, but Quinten Timber sent a shot over from around 25 yards. Adam Wharton and Tyrick Mitchell also had efforts in the first half, although both attempts took deflections and were comfortably dealt with.
The Eagles enjoyed their strongest spell shortly after half-time. However, they were unable to convert their opportunities and could not find the goal that would have put them in front.
There was a concern that Palace might suffer another late setback after conceding in the closing stages of last weekend’s 3-2 defeat by Ipswich Town. Leeds won a free-kick deep into stoppage time, with Ethan Ampadu’s long throws having provided much of their threat, but Palace defended the situation and cleared the ball.
The result leaves Sage’s side 15th in the table with four points from five games. Even so, the performance offered reason for belief that Palace can climb the standings after the international break, with the Eagles appearing unfortunate to have taken only a point.
