Crystal Palace’s difficult start to the season continued on Saturday as they were beaten 3-2 at home by Ipswich. The result leaves the Eagles with only three points from a possible 12 under Pierre Sage.
The defeat was made more difficult by Axel Disasi’s early dismissal, which left Palace playing with 10 men for much of the contest. Despite the latest setback, Sage believes the team’s league position does not fully reflect the level of their performances.
Speaking to Canal+ after the match, the Palace manager said he remained encouraged by the football his side had produced. He argued that the team had shown enough control during the game to feel that a better result should have been possible.
However, Sage also acknowledged the importance of converting performances into points. Palace are currently falling behind, he admitted, and must quickly correct their trajectory after a disappointing opening to the campaign.
The French coach arrived in England following a notable spell at RC Lens last season, but his Palace tenure has yet to gather momentum. The Eagles will now need to respond on the pitch if they are to turn their promising displays into results.
