Crystal Palace supporters were left divided but largely frustrated after Saturday’s 3-2 Premier League defeat by Ipswich Town, with the sending-off and a series of defensive mistakes at the centre of the reaction.
Jason felt Palace had started strongly and produced their best football of the season before a needless challenge changed the game. He also criticised the defending that allowed Ipswich players to go unmarked, although he was encouraged by the way Palace competed with 10 men and by Jorgen Strand Larsen scoring again. In his view, Palace can improve going forward but must become more secure defensively.
Other supporters were considerably more pessimistic. Les said the side lacked consistency and argued that manager Sage had to find a solution quickly, while Jezza directed his anger towards chairman Parish and the decision to sell key players. Jezza also called for one player described as a Chelsea reject to be sent back, and predicted that Palace were heading for relegation.
Sean pointed to a lack of cohesion, unity and understanding across the defence. He felt Palace had been in control at 1-0 before making another costly mistake, while also questioning Sage’s public criticism of some players. Chris similarly focused on the goalkeeper and defensive performance, describing Scherpen’s early wayward clearance as dangerous and arguing that Palace are conceding too many straightforward goals.
Ipswich supporters viewed the result more positively. Roddy believed the visitors controlled important periods and deserved the victory, but felt they had made the match unnecessarily difficult by failing to convert several second-half opportunities. Jamie said Ipswich’s last-minute winner was especially satisfying, describing the victory as significant for a new team that many people had already written off.
