Crystal Palace had to settle for a point against Leeds, but their performance offered encouragement to manager Pierre Sage after a demanding week for the Eagles.

Palace had played in the Europa League on Thursday and had three fewer days to prepare than Leeds. Despite that disadvantage, nine players who started the European match were named in the starting XI again, and Sage would have been pleased with the energy his team maintained throughout.

The Eagles created the first opening, although Quinten Timber sent an effort over the crossbar from around 25 yards. Adam Wharton and Tyrick Mitchell also went close before the interval, with both attempts taking deflections and being comfortably dealt with.

Palace produced their most promising spell shortly after the restart, but they could not turn their opportunities into a breakthrough. That failure to convert ultimately left them vulnerable to a late setback, particularly after conceding at the end of last weekend's 3-2 defeat by Ipswich Town.

Leeds posed their biggest threat through Ethan Ampadu's impressive long throws and won a deep free-kick during stoppage time. Palace dealt with the danger by heading the ball clear, securing a point that reflected their performance.

Sage's side sit 15th with four points from five games. The display should nevertheless provide belief that Palace can move quickly up the table after the international break.
