Crystal Palace suffered a frustrating 3-2 defeat to Ipswich Town at Selhurst Park, conceding a 90th-minute winner after playing with 10 men for more than half the match. The result ended Palace’s hopes of completing a perfect week after victories over Fulham and Middlesbrough.
Anan Khalaili put the hosts ahead when he collected Daichi Kamada’s pass and found the net with a shot that took a deflection off Leif Davis. Palace came close to adding a second, but Jorgen Strand Larsen’s volley was kept out before Ipswich levelled through an unmarked Emersonn header.
Palace’s task became significantly harder when Axel Disasi received a straight red card in the 34th minute for a studs-up challenge on Jack Clarke. Ipswich took advantage before the interval, with Davis heading home from a cross to give the visitors a 2-1 lead.
Despite their numerical disadvantage, Palace increased the pressure in the second half. Quiten Timber passed up two opportunities to equalise before Strand Larsen restored parity by holding off his marker and sending a low finish into the bottom-left corner.
The comeback ultimately counted for nothing. A Davis header struck the crossbar in the closing stages, and substitute Zian Flemming reacted quickest to turn in the rebound and settle the match for Ipswich.
Palace manager Pierre Sage said his players had given everything but felt the decisive goal came from a situation similar to Ipswich’s earlier headers. He also explained that Jaydee Canvot’s omission was a sporting decision, adding that he expected a stronger response from the player after discussions about his performance against Fulham and his work during the week.
