Ben Chilwell has backed himself and Tyrick Mitchell to maintain their attacking influence after the two Crystal Palace wing-backs produced all three goals in last weekend’s victory over Fulham.

Mitchell scored twice at Craven Cottage to bring Palace level at 2-2, before Chilwell came off the bench and converted a rebound with his first touch of his second spell at the club. His finish proved to be the winner.

The 29-year-old is now looking to build on that moment when Palace host Ipswich Town on Saturday afternoon. Chilwell believes the demands of the wing-back role in a back-five system require players to contribute with goals, assists, runs into the box and movement towards the far post, as well as their defensive work.

He also highlighted Mitchell’s performance, with the pair’s combined output helping Palace secure the result at Fulham. Chilwell hopes that attacking partnership can continue to develop as the season progresses.

The goal carried extra significance for Chilwell because it came during his first match back in England and his first appearance for Palace since returning from a spell with RC Strasbourg. He described his previous time at the club as a highly positive experience, pointing to the support of the players, staff and supporters.

Chilwell also recalled the celebrations after Palace won the FA Cup during his earlier spell, along with the team’s strong Premier League form from January onwards. Those memories, and the excitement of his family and friends at the prospect of his return, were central to his decision to come back to south London.
